It seems most of the Thai restaurants around town have started serving sushi.  We hadn’t been to Amarit Thai in a while and decided to check out what they had to offer tonight.  We started off with some wonton soup, salad, and some crispy spring rolls.

The soup and salad were good.  I like their ginger dressing.  The spring rolls were a bit too crispy in places, but otherwise, they were tasty.  We ordered the tuna tornado, Mexican roll, spicy tuna crunch, some salmon, and a lobster roll.

The sushi was good, but the rice was a bit on the cold side for my taste.  I just don’t think there should be a noticeable difference in temperature.  The rolls were all a good size and we ended up taking some home.  It was a bit on the expensive side though, $78 with a drink.

  • My sister & I were in Winter Park today and stopped at Orchid Thai for lunch.  It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside and had soup and appetizers.

I got the coconut soup and she went for the lemongrass soup.  The aroma of both were amazing.  The lemongrass soup was a bit spicy with lots of vegetables.  The coconut soup had a beautiful lime, coconut, lemongrass flavor to it.  Yum!  We settled on the Orchid Sampler and an order of the golden purses to munch on.

The sampler had summer rolls, spring rolls, crispy shrimp, dumplings and curry puffs.  The dumplings and spring rolls were my favorite.  We both found the curry puffs to be a bit overpowering.  The golden purses are basically crab rangoons.  They had a nice crunch on the outside with a creamy filling.  It was a fresh, tasty lunch for $38.

  • My sister & I were in Orlando this weekend and had lunch at Hawkers.  It’s an Asian street fare tapas restaurant  We ordered and shared four different items.  First up, the vegetarian spring rolls.

These were pretty standard spring rolls.  Next up were the curry meatballs.

These had a bit of spice to them, but the curry wasn’t overwhelmingly hot.  The meatballs had a good texture and flavor.  The last two items we ordered were the Bok Choy and Crispy Canton Noodles.

Both of these suffered from an overabundance of salt.  The bok choy was cooked well, but it was also supposed to have shitake mushrooms and I think there was one on the plate.  The veggies in the crispy noodles were tender crisp with some pieces of pork.  We kept dunking the crispy noodles into the sauce to soften them, but then they just got too salty to eat.  They have a large menu of different items, but these four were enough to fill us for the afternoon.  Total bill was $21.

  • Tasty Thai Cafe just opened up in the Publix Shopping center near Ruth Eckerd.  The space used to be Zeno’s Grill but they definitely made some nice improvements to the decor.  It’s a small restaurant, but it’s very inviting.  We started off with some spring rolls.

Loren didn’t think they had much flavor, but I liked them.  They had pork and veggies in them and had a nice crunch.  For his entree, Loren tried something different and got the Yum Beef.

He ordered it medium spicy and originally said it didn’t taste all that spicy to him, but it did build up after a while.  He said it was ok, but lacked some seasoning.  I ordered the Lad Nar and had the same thought, the seasoning just wasn’t there.

I had to add salt to mine and that’s something I rarely do. It just lacked flavor.  The veggies and chicken were cooked well and the noodles were tender, but it just didn’t have enough seasoning.  I’ve had the same dish at other Thai restaurants and unfortunately, this one just didn’t live up to the others.  They’re a new restaurant and they gave us a promotional coupon for a buy one, get one free dinner, so we may try them again.  Total bill with a drink was $28.

  • Fresh & Tasty

We finally rolled back into town around 8pm, so we stopped at Pacific Thai for a quick dinner.  We started off with some spring rolls.

These were yummy.  They have a pork and veggie filling and were deep fried just perfectly.  Loren ordered the Nam Sod and I have to say it was one of the prettiest dishes I’ve seen in a while.

He liked it.  It’s a rather light dish with spicy pork on top of a salad.  I went for some shrimp fried rice.

It was good.  Really hit the spot after a long day of driving.  For $26, it was a fresh yummy meal and we were glad to be back home.
