Brunch

Where to eat on a Sunday morning in downtown Orlando?  Le Gourmet Break on S. Magnolia is where we ended up and it was delicious.   I was in Orlando to see a play with my sister & niece and from the moment we walked into Le Gourmet Break, we were hooked.  It was too early for dessert, but they had a display case of gorgeous looking pastries.  My niece went for the tuna panini, my sister got the Parisienne crepe and I went for an omelette croissant.

Everything was fresh and delicious.  The panini was tasty, the crepe had thinly sliced ham, turkey & swiss with a bechamel sauce & mushrooms and the cheese was perfectly ooey gooey, & melted.  The croissant was huge and I got it with ham, cheddar & mushrooms.  It was buttery and flaky and the eggs were cooked perfectly.    Total bill was about $30 and we’d definitely eat here again.

Greek Lunch

Had the day off today, so we did some shopping and ended up at Greek City Cafe for lunch.  Loren got a small Greek salad with salmon.

He likes the Greek salads here.  They’re filled with lots of chopped veggies.  He said the salmon was a bit underseasoned, but ok.  I got the philly steak panini.

This was a tasty panini.  It was a little bit on the salty side which became more and more apparent the more I ate.  Otherwise, the bread was nicely toasted and the fillings were good.  Total bill with a drink was $19.

  • Since MecaFresh is closed on Sundays during the summer and that’s when we usually went there after going to a movie, we decided to go for lunch today instead.  They had the Valentino, a meatball panini on special today, so I went for that while Loren went for a combo roast beef panini and salad.

I always forget that the full panini is too big for me.  I ended up eating one half and then picking the meatballs out of the other half.  I like the meatballs here.  They’re soft and tasty and the tomato sauce is flavorful.  Loren liked his roast beef & salad as well.

I forgot they started offering free frozen yogurt here.  We were getting ready to leave when the server came by and asked us if we wanted some.

They only have one flavor a day & today’s was vanilla.  It’s very rich and creamy and by the look on Loren’s face, cold enough to trigger brain freeze.   Total bill with a drink was $19.

Back to Winter Park today to meet my sister & niece and that meant eating at Keke’s.  Usually we get breakfast, but we all went for lunch items today. My sister got the chicken sesame salad and my niece got a cheeseburger.

They both liked their dishes, but the cheeseburger was really messy.  The burger didn’t quite fit the bun correctly and with everything on it, there were no amount of napkins that were going to help.  I got the Chicken Marsala Panini.

It was also a bit on the messy side, but had a really good marsala flavor.  The chicken was tender and it had big pieces of portobello mushrooms in it.  I’d order it again.

Service was just ok today.  They forgot one of the orders of sweet potato fries and took a while to bring the mustard my niece requested.  Total bill was $36 with a drink.

Loren & I headed over to MecaFresh for lunch today.  They had a chicken and portobello special that sounded good to me, so I gave it a try with a bowl of lobster bisque.

The description of this sandwich was chicken and portobello mushrooms with onions and a mayo aioli. Unfortunately for me, there was a rather important key word left out of that aioli description… horseradish.   After a few bites, I realized there was horseradish in the sauce, but by then, the damage was already done.  That burning sensation built up in my sinuses and grew into a lovely headache that lasted for the next 6 hours.  Did I mention that horseradish is evil?  I don’t mind the taste of it at all, the panini was actually very tasty and I did eat it all.  There was no point in stopping after those first few bites, but I did regret it for the rest of the day.  And though the lobster bisque here is quite tasty, they’ve been surpassed by the bowl we had at La Trattatoria in Dunedin.

Loren got a half roast beef sandwich & salmon salad.

His had the same mayo aioli on it, but he likes it and doesn’t have the reaction that I have to horseradish.  He said the salad was a little wilted, but overall it was good.  MecaFresh is also now offering free frozen yogurt with  the purchase of an entree.

My guess is they’re now competing with the Green Market Cafe that also offers free yogurt with a meal.  They only had vanilla, but for frozen yogurt, it was pretty good.  Total bill was $19 with a drink.
