The more we go to Salsa’s Mexican Restaurant in Oldsmar, the more we’re liking it.  They’ve definitely gotten better over time with both the food and the service.

Tonight Loren went for the chicken fajitas.

The chicken was very tender and there was enough of it for two meals.  He had plenty of tasty leftovers for the next day.  I tried something different tonight, the Pollo Empanisado which came with nacho cheese sauce, rice, beans, salad and tortillas.

Underneath the chicken in the photo is another piece of chicken.  I was surprised at how much food there was in this dish.  The chicken was incredibly tender.  We both remarked at how thin it was and yet still tender and tasty.  The guacamole and cheese sauce added that little something extra.  I’d definitely order it again.  Total bill with a drink was $27.

  • Quick Lunch

We stopped in Vallarta’s Mexican Restaurant for a quick lunch after going to see the new Muppet movie.  They had a buffet, but we ordered off the menu instead.  Loren got one of the three item combos with a taco, enchilada and burrito.

He got them all with shredded beef.  He said the enchilada and burrito sort of blurred into one item, but otherwise it was pretty good.  I went for the chicken fajitas.

The fajitas were cooked well and even after I filled three tortillas, there was still enough left over for another meal.  Total bill with a drink was $25.

We were heading to Tampa tonight to see The Addams Family musical and stopped at Guadalajara Mexican restaurant for dinner.  Loren loves the chips & salsa here.

He even ended up getting refills.  For his dinner, he got the combo steak & chicken fajitas.

He said they were tasty.  They’re served with beans the he also really likes.

I went for the ground beef chimichanga tonight.

It was really good.  Crispy on the outside and the inside flavors were really nice.  Along with the refried beans and rice, I was pretty stuffed by the time we left.  Total bill was $28.

  • We went over to Salsa’s Mexican Restaurant for lunch today.  They’re really good about getting food out fast.  They dropped off chips and salsa.  Loren said it’s gotten better, but still lacks that burst of fresh flavors that he’s gotten in other salsas.

He ordered the lunch chicken fajitas.  He asked the waiter if it came with guacamole and he said yes, but of course when it came to the table, it didn’t have any.  The waiter did rectify the situation quickly though.  It seems they still need to get more familiar with their own menu.

I ordered the Cancun Chimichanga.  It’s a shrimp chimi and though the shell wasn’t crispy enough, it did have pretty good flavors.  The refried beans had a little bit of a smoky flavor to them today.

Total bill with a drink was $19.

  • Wanted something quick for dinner, so we headed out to Poblanos.  I felt the need for some chips and queso.

I know it doesn’t look like much, but it’s darn tasty.  I got the queso with taco meat in it instead of just plain cheese.   I should know better than to order queso, it just means I’ll fill up on chips and not have room for my dinner.  Though, tonight, that really wasn’t an issue since the chicken in my fajitas was a bit overcooked.

Some of the pieces were ok, but a good portion of it was tough.  It’s a shame since I don’t order fajitas very often, it would have been nice to actually enjoy them.  Loren got the carnitas.

It’s one of his favorite dishes.  A bit on the spicy side and totally yummy.  Total bill with a drink was $32.
