We had dinner at Asian Pearl in Clearwater tonight.  This is our go-to Chinese restaurant.  The food is always so fresh and tasty.  We started off with some spring rolls.

Perfect crunch and a tasty filling.  Loren ordered the X.O. beef.  He’s ordered it before and always asks the waitress what’s in the XO sauce.  Whatever it is, it’s flavorful stuff.

The beef is tender and he likes all of the different veggies in it.  I tried the cashew chicken tonight.

This also had a lot of well cooked veggies, plus tender chicken in a tasty brown sauce.  There was enough on the plate that I had leftovers for the next day.  We’ll definitely be back for more.  Total bill with a drink was $33.

  • Looking for a new Mediterranean restaurant and ended up at Mirage Restaurant in Clearwater on Gulf to Bay.  Normally, we’re not too keen on buffets, but this one was surprisingly fresh and tasty.

The buffet had a variety of salads and dips, my favorite being the babaganoush.  There were several different rice and vegetarian options, stuffed grape leaves, plus chicken and beef kababs.  We tried a bunch of different things and the meats were all very tender and everything had a good mix of flavorful spices.  The baklava for dessert wasn’t too sweet and had a warm cinnamon flavor to it.  The restaurant itself is just a big open dining room, plus a patio out front.

Total bill was $47 and we’ll definitely be back again.

Wanted to start off my vacation with a sunset, so off to Indian Rocks Beach we went and ate dinner at Thai Pan Alley.  It took a while before our waitress came to our table.  We ordered the dumplings, the Kiss Me Beef and the Pad Broccoli.

The Kiss Me Beef had a lot of garlic and pepper in it, plus water chestnuts and carrots.  Loren liked it.  I thought the pad broccoli with chicken was a bit on the bland side.  The chicken was very plain and didn’t seem as though it was cooked with the vegetables.  Total bill with a drink was $27.

    And here’s that sunset:

We were driving through Westchase earlier today and I noticed a new restaurant on Countryway Blvd called Fresh Bites, so we headed over there for dinner.  It’s a little Mediterranean restaurant that boasts of fresh, natural ingredients.  You order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you.  We started off with the cucumber yogurt salad which came with pita.

This wasn’t exactly what I was expecting.  It was a bowl of very liquidy, creamy spiced yogurt with slices of cucumber in it.  I was expecting it to be thicker with cut up cucumber in it.  It just dripped off the pita.  For our entrees, we ordered the beef shawarma and the lamb grilled kafta kabab.

Our inexperience with Mediterranean food and the fact that the person who brought our food to the table didn’t clearly specify which was which meant we actually ended up eating each other’s order instead of our own.  I had ordered the lamb kebab, but ended up with the shawarma.  We didn’t realize it until we were done eating and I happened to look at the menu and realized mine should have been the one with the rice.  The plates were both overly filled with salad.  For the price, I would have expected more meat on the plate.  They also came with roasted veggies and hummus.  I liked the taste of the kababs and the rice.  Loren cleared the plate.  He likes hummus and that kind of leafy salad.  It all had that very distinct middle eastern spice flavor to it. The shawarma was wrapped in pita, though we didn’t order it as a wrap.  It was cooked with onions and tomatoes, but again, there was just very little meat to it.  I think vegetarians would enjoy it here.  Normally, I drink water with my dinner, but I ordered the fresh lemonade.  It had an unusual taste to it.  It was very sweet, but I’m thinking maybe it was partially sweetened with honey.  They seemed to be doing a very good take-out business though.  Total bill with a drink was $35.

We eat out a lot and one of the things I’ve noticed is that a lot of places have gone to a very minimal presentation of their food, but that’s not the case with Pacific Thai Cuisine.  Their plating makes the food look that much more appetizing and it’s those little details that can take a meal to that next level.  Loren decided to try the Yum Beef tonight.

He got it medium spicy and he was sniffling a little by the end, but really enjoyed the dish.  He loves entrees with lots of veggies.  I went for the Pad Se-ew tonight.

It’s a very simple dish, but they do it well here.  It has that right mouth-feel, the veggies are crisp, the flavors subtle, and the noodles are cooked perfectly.  It’s just a pleasant dining experience from start to finish.  Must be why we eat here quite often.  Total bill with a drink was $33.
