Burgers for Lunch

We went over to Maloney’s Irish Pub in Westchase for lunch today.  They weren’t very busy, but it took a really long time for our burgers to come out. Loren got the California burger & I went for just a plain cheeseburger.

Loren liked the burgers more than I did.  I found the patty to be a little too dense.  It had a nice toasted bun and the fries were good.  He liked the guacamole and bacon on his.  Total bill was $26.

Quick Lunch

Got some quick takeout from Mizette Lebanese Grill.

Falafel, hummus and baba ghanoush.  Yum!  The falafel were crispy on the outside and tender in the middle without being mushy.  The hummus and baba ghanoush are delicious.  It was a tasty $14 lunch.

Daily News Cafe

We’re always on a quest to find new restaurants and tonight we ended up at the Daily News Cafe & Restaurant in Clearwater.  It was a Tuesday night and there weren’t very many people there.  We started off with the spinach & artichoke dip.

It was served with fresh pita, but it took us a few minutes to figure out how to eat it.  The pita was too soft to dip in the bowl so you had to spoon it on the pita instead.  The taste was familiar, almost like a broccoli cheese soup.  We decided to get the mixed grill for two so we could try a bit of everything.

I should have removed the pita and taken a better photo.  It had Cevapi, Sudzukice, Pljeskavica, Raznjici and fries.  Basically, it was a big plate of Balkan meats.  My favorite was the Cevapi.  They were small mildly spiced sausages.  The Pljeskavica was a very dense meat patty made with ground beef and lamb.  It was just too dense for me.  The Sudzukice were long, thin spicy sausages and the Raznjici were skewers of lamb and chicken.  The overall flavors were pretty mellow, though the Sudzukice was a little too spicy for me.   Overall, none of it really wow’d us.   We also got a slice of cake for dessert.

That was a tasty combo of chocolate cake and mousse filling.   Total bill with a drink was $49.

Sunday Dinner

We had dinner at Cafe Alfresco in Dunedin tonight. I think Sunday evening is a good time to go because they weren’t too busy.  Prime rib is their Sunday special, so Loren decided to try that.

That was a big hunk of prime rib served with mashed potatoes and asparagus.  He said it had a good flavor and was tender.  I tried the eggplant Parmesan.

The eggplant was good.  It had a little bit of crunch from the breadcrumb coating and plenty of cheese on top.  Total bill with a drink was $40.

Seafood

We went over to Jack Willies in Oldsmar for dinner tonight.  We sat on the patio, but I think we would have enjoyed our dinner more had we sat inside.  There was a table of loud, drunk people behind us and they allow smoking on the patio, so the overall atmosphere just wasn’t for us.  The food, however, was pretty tasty.

Loren ordered the blackened Mahi with fries.  He said the fish was fresh and tender with just the right amount of spice.

I ordered a fried seafood combo with oysters and grouper.  The waiter heard “shrimp” instead of grouper, so he had to take the plate back & then bring me another plate with the grouper.

It was  big ol’ plate of fried food.  The oysters were delicious.  I love me some tater tots and the hush puppies had a good flavor too.  The grouper is why we went there in the first place and it had a nice crispy coating and the fish was tender and flaky.  Total bill with a drink was $35.
