Lots of BBQ

Let me start off by saying the goal of this evening was to have leftovers.  We went over to Ozona Pig and got some Brunswick stew and the big Boss Hog special.

The Brunswick stew has a little bit of a kick to it, but it’s oh so good.  The boss hog platter has pulled pork, brisket, ribs, & chicken.  We hardly made a dent in it.  The ribs were fall off the bone tender and the rest of it was smoky and yummy.  Total bill with a drink was $42.

  • So Loud

We thought we were going to dinner at the Palm Harbor Bistro only to discover Detroit Coney Island had taken over the restaurant space.   They seemed busy, so we stayed for dinner.  They were having a Friday fish fry and the air in the restaurant was thick with a greasy fried smell.  Loren ordered the pastrami burger and I decided to try the fried fish.

Loren said the burger was good.  It was cooked a bit past the medium that he ordered, but otherwise it had a good flavor and the pastrami was tasty.  Though I’m not a big fan of cornmeal crusted fish, this one was good.  You get a choice of three different varieties of fish and I went with the walleye.  It was piping hot when it got to the table and the fish was tender and flaky.  Overall the food was good.  The downside for us was how loud it was inside.  And it wasn’t due to the customers, it was the waitstaff.  They would yell across the restaurant to each other.  At one point, there was someone directly behind Loren yelling to someone at the other end of the restaurant about cleaning off a table.  It was like being back in my Italian family where they only have one volume level and that’s loud.  If we decide to go back again, we’ll definitely sit outside.  Total bill with a drink was $23.

We were heading back from Plant City and stopped at Origami Sushi for dinner.  It was early so there weren’t very many people there, but they do a serious take out business.  It was happy hour so we started off with some Gyoza and then got a bunch of sushi.

The Gyoza had a tasty pork filling.  For sushi, we tried the tunacado, the sunset roll, rainbow roll, scorched earth and perfect match, plus some salmon and a side salad.  The sunset roll had fresh mango on it and I have to admit, I really enjoyed the bit of sweetness it added to the roll.  One of the others had a mango salsa on it and it was way too spicy for me.  Overall, the sushi was very good.  Total bill with a drink was $65.
