Mainely Meat

We stopped at Mainely Meat for some BBQ.  We ordered a sampler and a pulled pork sandwich.

BBQ Sampler

Pulled Pork Sandwich

The ribs were very tender with a spicy rub on top.  The chicken and pulled pork were both cooked well and the sausage was a bit on the spicy side.  The sides, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, and cornbread, were all tasty as well. Total bill with a drink was $25.

  • Lobster pounds are one of the mainstays of traveling through Mount Desert Island.  After going to see the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, we stopped at Thurston’s Lobster Pound for dinner.  It was all lobster tonight with a lobster salad, lobster stew, and a big whole lobster for me.

They do lobster right here.  The salad had big chunks of lobster, the stew was delicious and the whole lobster was perfectly cooked.  It was the best one I had on vacation.  We also tried their blueberry pie with blueberry ice cream.

The ice cream was really tasty and the pie was good too.  Total bill with a drink was $65.

  • We stopped at Brandon & Laura’s Cafe in Southwest Harbor for lunch.  It was a little cafe where the locals hang out.  Loren ordered the haddock sandwich with the salad bar.

This was the best tasting haddock we had all vacation.  It was perfectly cooked and tender.  We were both impressed at how tasty it was.  I went for the mushroom burger with onion rings.

The onion rings were addictive.  Thin shoestring onion rings that I just couldn’t stop eating.  The burger was cooked well and had a nice flavor to it.  We opted for the strawberry shortcake for dessert.

    Strawberry Shortcake

I’m not a fan of strawberry shortcake served on a biscuit, but it was ok.  Plenty of whipped cream to keep it moist.  Total bill with a drink was $23.
