One of the reasons we enjoy going to Craft Street Kitchen is you never know what sort of tasty concoction will be on the menu.  They change the specials board and brunch menu often and there’s always something new & yummy to try.  Tonight’s new addition was Aunt Sally’s Drunken Chicken.

Half a chicken with potatoes, carrots & mushrooms in a delicious red wine sauce.  The veggies were all perfectly cooked and the chicken was tender.  There was more than enough food there for two meals, aka, lunch tomorrow.  Loren went with the shrimp & grits which is on the regular menu.

While not spicy overall, the sausage has a nice kick to it.  The shrimp are cooked just right and the grits and sauce have a tasty flavor to them.   For $40, it was a very filling and enjoyable meal.

  • We stopped by Mother’s in Westchase for lunch today.  They have an outside patio and the weather was perfect for it today.  The menu had some interesting choices and we started off with the smokey Chipotle Gouda mac & cheese bites.

These were tasty.  Crispy on the outside, cheesy & gooey on the inside and the cheese sauce on the side had lots of flavor.  A little smokey with crispy Pancetta.  $8 for 4 of them seemed a little high to me, especially since I could have eaten a dozen and not thought twice about it.  For his entree, Loren got their grilled chicken sandwich with fries.

He was a happy camper.  It had arugula, tomato, pepper jack cheese, bacon and an avocado ranch sauce.  The chicken was very tender and tasty.  I went for their Citrus Duck Flatbread.

It’s a rare occurrence when I like every single ingredient in a dish.  This flatbread was perfect for me.  The flatbread itself was thin & crispy with duck confit, goat cheese, Mandarin oranges, Asian pears, and a Ponzu reduction.  It was delicious.  All of the flavors blended together just right.   Total bill with a drink was $36.  The food and service were both great and we’ll definitely be back to try some other things on the menu.

We went over to Craft Street Kitchen in Oldsmar for lunch today after seeing the movie “Arrival” at the AMC theater in the same shopping center. (good movie, by the way).  We eat here a lot.  They always have interesting specials and a different brunch menu on Sunday mornings.  Today, we both opted for burgers.  Loren got the Duck Dynasty special.

This was duck with arugula, a sunny side up egg, apple chips and a cranberry jalepeno spread.  He said it was pretty tasty.  Different combinations of sweet and heat.  I went for the Belly Up Burger.

This one had braised pork belly and an over easy egg.   It was juicy and flavorful, definitely something I’d order again.  It also required quite a few napkins because it was a messy burger.  I also can’t resist their sweet potato tots.  Yum!  Total bill with a drink was about $30.

    Breakfast

Going out for breakfast on a Sunday morning can be quite the adventure if you don’t want to stand in line for an hour.  We thought we’d try Lenny’s in Clearwater to find the line surrounding the building.  Then we drove through the Village Inn parking lot to find it completely full as well.  Eventually, we drove by Country Skillet on Roosevelt and didn’t have to wait for a table.  They brought a few mini blueberry muffins to the table.  I could have easily eaten a dozen of them and not thought twice about it.

Loren got an omelette and I went for a southern scramble, both with hashbrowns.  His was smothered in hollendaise sauce, mine with sausage gravy.

Let’s just say calorie count went out the window with this breakfast.  Everything was ok and there was plenty of it.  Hearty enough breakfast that neither of us needed lunch.   Nothing that wow’d us so much that we’d make a special trip out here, but it filled our bellies and we didn’t have to wait.  Total bill was $21.

We went over to Tampa Bay Brewing Co on Race Track Road in Oldsmar for dinner and it was busy.  We had to wait a while for a table and the noise level in there is rather deafening.  We started off with the Cantonese Calamari because it’s soooo good.

There’s a bit of heat going on in this dish, but the calamari is very tender and the flavors are delicious.  There are also a few shrimp tossed in there for good measure.  Loren went for the Chicken Spinach Salad and I decided to try the baby back ribs with a side of loaded mashed potatoes.

He said the chicken was tender and flavorful, but there was way more spinach on the plate than he could eat.  The ribs were just ok.  Not quite as tender as I would have liked and the loaded mashed potatoes were inedible.  The cheese on top made a very solid barrier and the potatoes within were too thick.  It needed something saucy to loosen it up.  We wanted something sweet to end the meal, so dug into a deep dish apple crisp.

Loren said he’d ordered it before and it had a lot more ice cream, but this one was pretty good.  Just enough sweet & cinnamon, plus tart apples, a crispy crunch, whipped cream and ice cream.  We all but licked the bowl clean. Total bill with a drink was $52.
