We’ve been boycotting downtown Dunedin since they put in the parking meters, but it seems the city finally came to its senses and the meters are no longer in use.  To celebrate, we went back to one of our favorite places, Cafe Alfresco.  It looked like there were people waiting outside, but we were able to get a table for 2 without a wait.

We started off with the pork eggrolls.

Tasty little bundles of pork with a tangy little sauce.  They have a nice crunch and a flavorful filling.  Both of our entrees came with salads & rolls.  The rolls are served warm and they are so good.

For his entree, Loren got the sesame crusted salmon.  He said the green beans weren’t anything to write home about, but the salmon was perfectly cooked and flavorful.

Saturday is rib night at Cafe Alfresco, so I went for the rack of ribs with fries & cole slaw.  The ribs fall right off the bone and though they aren’t very smoky, the sauce is sweet & tangy.

One of my favorite desserts here is the Devonshire chocolate cake. Layers of cake & mousse served with whipped cream.  It is so good.  We all but lick the plate clean.

They have a great waitstaff here.  Very attentive, get things right the first time, and friendly.  Total bill was $55.

Time for the new monthly specials at Craft Street Kitchen.  Tonight we tried the Southern Pu-chos and the Lobster Fra-violi.

The Pu-chos is a mash up of poutine and nachos.  It had brisket, collard greens, black eyed peas, and cheddar cheese on top of waffle fries.  There was a lot going on and it all worked together.

The lobster ravioli was served with fried calamari, shrimp and mussels in a spicy fra diavolo sauce.  The seafood and ravioli were good, but the sauce was a little too spicy for me.  Total bill with a drink was $37.

Breakfast

We went back to the Palm Harbor Bistro this morning to check out their breakfast menu.  Loren got the Empire skillet and I went for a 2-2-2 Your Way.

The Empire skillet had sausage, bacon, onions, mushrooms & cheese on top of fried potatoes plus 2 eggs and toast.  There was plenty of food on the plate.  I really their scrambled eggs.  They were light and fluffy.

For my 2-2-2, I got pancakes, eggs over easy and bacon with hash browns.   It was good, but I’d go for the scrambled eggs next time.  Total bill was $20.

We’ve driven by the Palm Harbor Bistro on Hwy 19 a bunch of times and decided to stop in for dinner tonight.  There weren’t a lot of people there for dinner.  It seems more of a breakfast & lunch place.  Loren ordered the Crispy Chicken Salad and I went for the Hangover Burger.

The fried chicken on the salad was very tender and tasty.  You can tell it was properly marinated to make it juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.  The hangover burger had bacon, egg & cheese on it.  The burger was a perfect medium and the bacon was cooked well and the over easy egg oozed just the way it should.  I also got the homemade french fries which were pretty tasty as well.  Everyone was very friendly in the restaurant and the food was good.  They have a big menu and we’ll be back again.  Total bill with a drink was $24.

Crab Cakes

Another tasty lunch at Craft Street Kitchen.  We eat here almost every week and although their regular menu is good, it’s the monthly chef’s specials that make it that much more interesting.  Today I tried the crab cakes

Three crunchy, home made crab cakes on a bed of Asian slaw.  The crab cakes had a lot of flavor, a nice crunch, and a bit of spicy heat.  I could have definitely eaten more than 3 of them.  Loren went for the Yippee Hippy salad.

This is an interesting salad with chicken, apple, walnuts, dried cherries & goat cheese.  I kept stealing the cherries & goat cheese off his plate.  Good stuff.  Total bill with a drink was $31.
