Long Wait

Craft Street Kitchen in Oldsmar always has a crowd.  I think the last 2 times we were there, we had at least a 45 minute wait for dinner.  So far, though, it’s been worth the wait.  Tonight, we sat out on the patio which was good since it was so loud inside and started with some meatloaf sliders.

These were some tasty little bites.  There’s a little bit of heat going on, either in the meatloaf itself or maybe in the bacon tomato jam, but certainly an appetizer we’d get again.  Loren went for the Ziggy.

He’s had this sandwich before and his one complaint is the ratio of bread to filling.  It has a great flavor though.  I decided to try the steak and cheese with a side of sweet potato tots.

The steak was incredibly tender.  I was amazed at how tender it was.  The cheese sauce was sort of fondue like.  It was ok, but a more gooier cheese would have worked better.  Instead, this was just a very sloppy sandwich.  The tots were crispy and came with a sweet dipping sauce.  Yum!  Total bill with a drink was $40.

  • Stopped at Nosh Cafe for lunch today.  I can’t resist their Cuban sandwich and potato salad & Loren decided to try the Po’ Boy and a bowl of chili.

Loren liked the Po’ Boy.  It had lots of ham and roast beef and the chili made for a nice side.  I’m not a big salami fan, but I really like the flavor of the kind they use here.  Both plates were empty within no time.

  • Back Again

We made our way back to Craft Street Kitchen tonight, but had to wait about 30 minutes for a table.  This place is hopping on the weekends.  Unfortunately, that does mean it gets pretty loud inside, but the food makes up for the noise. Tonight we tried the short rib tots for an appetizer.

Thai chili braised short ribs and sweet potato tots make for a tasty, tangy, sweet and spicy combination.  It was interesting.  I couldn’t stop eating it even though it was a bit on the spicy side.  Loren decided to try the Ziggy sandwich with a side of collard greens.

Though he liked the flavors in the sandwich, there was way too much bread going on there.  I went for the dish he had last time, the Belgium Clucker.

These are hands down the best waffles we’ve eaten. The chicken was tender and tasty, but the collard greens were a bit too strong for me.  They really overwhelmed all of the other flavors on the plate.  Total bill with a drink was $42.

  • Salty

Went back to Tampa Bay Brewing Company for lunch on Saturday with some friends.  We started off with the chips and salsa and queso.  I love how crispy the chips are and the queso had a nice flavor, though a little on the salty side.  Loren ordered the steak & bacon chop salad & I got the Iron Rat Stout Shepard’s Pie.

Loren liked the salad.  He said the steak was tender enough to cut with a butter knife (lucky for him since that was the only knife he had).  Though I liked the flavor of the shepard’s pie, it was so incredibly salty and greasy.  I don’t know if they increase the salt content to get people to drink more or what.  The meat and veggie mixture inside went well with the thick, creamy mashed potatoes.  Total bill with a drink was $38.

  • We enjoyed our dinner so much the last time that we had to return to Craft Street Kitchen with friends again for dinner tonight.  We got there around 5:30pm and sat out on the patio this time and the restaurant was filling up fast.  By the time we left, there was a line out the door.  The food tonight did not disappoint.

Our friends ordered the Smoked Kissed Salmon, the Green Street Salad and the peanut butter pie for dessert.

I don’t think there was any food left on any of the plates.  Everything was so yummy.  The only complaint was that my friend wished the salad had come with some bread.  Loren ordered the Belgium Clucker and I decided to try the duck flat bread they had on special plus a side of mac & cheese.

The Belgium Clucker is their play on chicken and waffles.  The waffle was amazing.  It was light and fluffy, but had this crunchy exterior and a warm vanilla flavor to it.  They should start opening for breakfast and just serve these waffles.  He said the chicken was tender and it paired well with the bacon collard greens and maple BBQ sauce.  It was also covered in a salsa verde sauce.  The plate was all but licked clean.

The duck flatbread isn’t on their normal menu.  It had duck, mandarin oranges, bacon, goat cheese and another smoked cheese.  Did I mention it was huge?  It had some interesting flavors in it.  The mac & cheese tasted ok, but it needed more sauce.  It was just a bit on the dry side.

For our dessert, we tried another thing on special, the State Fair Puffs.  They were fresh, hot donut holes covered in powered sugar and served with a raspberry cream.

They were amazing and there were a bunch of them in the bag.  I hope they add these to the permanent menu because they were delish.  Our bill alone was $44 and there are still a bunch of things on the menu that we can’t wait to try.
