Time for the new monthly specials at Craft Street Kitchen.  Tonight we tried the Southern Pu-chos and the Lobster Fra-violi.

The Pu-chos is a mash up of poutine and nachos.  It had brisket, collard greens, black eyed peas, and cheddar cheese on top of waffle fries.  There was a lot going on and it all worked together.

The lobster ravioli was served with fried calamari, shrimp and mussels in a spicy fra diavolo sauce.  The seafood and ravioli were good, but the sauce was a little too spicy for me.  Total bill with a drink was $37.

Crab Cakes

Another tasty lunch at Craft Street Kitchen.  We eat here almost every week and although their regular menu is good, it’s the monthly chef’s specials that make it that much more interesting.  Today I tried the crab cakes

Three crunchy, home made crab cakes on a bed of Asian slaw.  The crab cakes had a lot of flavor, a nice crunch, and a bit of spicy heat.  I could have definitely eaten more than 3 of them.  Loren went for the Yippee Hippy salad.

This is an interesting salad with chicken, apple, walnuts, dried cherries & goat cheese.  I kept stealing the cherries & goat cheese off his plate.  Good stuff.  Total bill with a drink was $31.

  • We went over to Tampa Bay Brewing Co for dinner tonight.   Surprisingly, we were able to get a table without a wait.  Either the stormy weather or holiday weekend kept the restaurant from being overly crowded.  The had a brisket poutine on the specials menu, so we tried that for an appetizer.

Smoky brisket on top of fries with a mushroom gravy and deep fried cheese curds.  It was decadent and downright tasty.   The fried cheese curds were something we hadn’t seen in a poutine before.  They were good and crunchy.  Since the poutine was enough for an entree, we decided to split a ham & mushroom calzone.

The calzone is definitely big enough for two.  Unfortunately, the mushrooms made the inside somewhat watery.  It had several different cheeses inside and the crust was good.  Total bill with a drink was $28.

  • So Salty

We had lunch at Tampa Bay Brewing Company in Westchase today.  Loren tried the hot pastrami sandwich and I went for the brats & mash.

He really liked all the flavors in the sandwich.  He said even though some of the ingredients are things he wouldn’t normally eat, together they all melded to make a well balanced sandwich.   The red beans & rice are his favorite side dish here.   The brats & mash were tasty, but as with most things I’ve ever eaten here, the salt content is way too high.  It tastes great at first and then my tongue feels over saturated with salt.  I don’t know if it’s done purposely to get people to order more beer, but for me it’s just too much.  Total bill with a drink was $21.

    Big Rolls

We were in Oldsmar and noticed another new sushi restaurant, Oishi Sushi on the corner of Tampa Road & Forest Lakes.  The restaurant had a modern feel to it and was pleasantly quiet.   They had a big list of sushi rolls and we ordered some salmon, a Mexican Roll, Rainbow Roll, Atom Bomb, Tuna Garlic, and a Lobster roll.

The specialty rolls were all 10 pieces and a good size as well.  The fish was all very fresh and tasty.  The Atom bomb wasn’t overly spicy and the Mexican roll and lobster roll both had a good crunch.  Overall, it was one of the better sushi experiences we’ve had recently.  The only downside was the bill.  Good sushi ain’t cheap.  Total bill was $74.
