Yummy Sushi

We thought we were going out for Thai food, but about halfway through the menu, we decided to order sushi instead.  What can I say, we love sushi.  We started off with some steamed dumplings and a salad.

I liked the dressing on the salad here.  It didn’t have that overwhelming ginger/sesame oil flavor that I don’t care for.  The steamed dumplings were tasty.  They had both pork and shrimp in them along with water chestnuts and mushrooms.  For the sushi, we ordered a Mexican roll, a Rainbow roll, a Tiger Eye roll and a Boston roll, plus some salmon.

All of the sushi was fresh and tasty.  There was a bit too much wasabi on the salmon that cleared my sinuses right up.  Loren liked the Boston roll.  It had spicy tuna, shrimp, avocado, cucumber and kimchee sauce.  The kimchee sauce is what brought the spiciness up to the next level.  The Tiger Eye roll was interesting.  It had salmon, squid, krab, and avocado, deep fried and covered in eel sauce.  I liked it.  Normally, Loren’s not a fan of eel sauce, but he thought it was good too.  Total bill with a drink was $53.

  • So Much Food

If you’re heading out for dinner at the German Bistro II, you better be hungry.  The food is hearty, delicious, and there’s so much of it.  They start you off with some bread and cole slaw.

The bread is thick and served with an herbed butter.  Loren even asked for seconds.  The cole slaw is fresh and crunchy with a bit of a peppery dressing on it.  For his entree, Loren went for the pork Jaegerschnitzel with warm potato salad and a house salad.

The pork is super tender with a savory mushroom gravy on top.  He really enjoyed the vinegary flavor of the potato salad too.  I went for the chicken schnitzel with a side salad and spaetzle.

I’m amazed at how tender they can get such a thin piece of chicken.  The breading had a nice lemon flavor to it and the spaetzle was delicious, especially with gravy on top.  The sides are unlimited and I was tempted to get another order of the spaetzle, but I knew I had to leave room for dessert.

Black Forest cake is one of our favorites and this was an amazing one.  The cake was tender, the cherries had a nice tartness and it was served up with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.  As you can see from the photo, Loren’s got his fork ready & telling me to hurry up and take the photo.  This was an incredibly tasty and filling dinner for $45.

  • I think we’ve found our new favorite German restaurant down in Largo.  German Bistro 2 is in a little strip mall, has about 10 tables inside and some very tasty and hearty German food.  They started us off with some bread and coleslaw.

The bread was fresh and tasty.  The coleslaw was a bit on the peppery side, but still very good.  I knew I shouldn’t have ordered an appetizer, but I just love potato pancakes.

    20130504_3

Normally, Loren isn’t a fan, but he really enjoyed these.  They were nice and crispy with a little bit of herbs on them and served with applesauce and sour cream.  I have to admit, I was already full by the time our entrees arrived.  Loren got the Gypsischnizel with a side salad and dumpling.

They forgot to bring out the dressing for his salad, but other than that the meal was very good.  His pork had a tomato and green pepper sauce on it.  The dumpling was made of stuffing.  It was different.  I ordered the Jaegerschnizel with spaezel and warm potato salad.

The pork was very tender and the mushroom gravy had lots of thick slices of mushrooms.  The spaezle was so good that I had to order seconds.  I forgot to mention, all the sides have free refills.  Loren really enjoyed the potato salad.  It had bacon and that distinct vinegary German flavor.  We both ended up with lots of leftovers and yet, we still ordered the apple strudel for dessert.

It was served with ice cream and whipped cream.  Seriously, we were both so stuffed by this point that we couldn’t finish the pastry, though we did eat all of the apples inside.  Another thing to mention is that they also offer complimentary beer or wine.  It was a very enjoyable experience.  The owners are very friendly and accommodating.  They want to make sure you enjoy every last thing on your plate.   This is definitely a restaurant we’ll be returning to.  Just have to remember to bring a big appetite.   Total bill was $55.

  • Yummy Subs

I was in the mood for a sub for lunch, so we drove over to Largo to Cesarina Deli & Bakery.  They have a big variety of cold and hot subs along with some Italian dishes.  I went for the California cheese steak.

I couldn’t even begin to pick it up & eat it until I had taken half of the meat off.  There was so much of it and it was really flavorful and delicious.  It had a wonderful seasoning to it and the bread was fresh and tasty.  I was only able to eat half of it.  Loren went for the muffalata.

    20130303_14

He was only able to eat half of his too.  He said the bread was crusted in some really tasty herbs, the deli meat was fresh and the olive spread was tasty too.  Overall, some really yummy sandwiches.  With a couple of drinks, the total bill was $19.  I also ended up spending about $30 in the deli on some meats, olives, a really delicious cannoli, and some other baked goods.  I had to buy some of this cake just so I could photograph it.

Definitely check this place out if you’re in the area.  The subs are delicious.

  • We went to the Botanical Gardens in Largo tonight to see the holiday lights display and stopped at Los Mariachis on the way home for dinner.

Loren got the two taco dinner & I got the shrimp chimichangas.

Both dishes were ok.  Pretty standard Mexican fare around here.  I would have preferred beans to rice with my dish, but I just stole some of Loren’s.  The chimichangas were cooked pretty well, though could have used just a little more crunch.  Overall, a pretty filling meal for $23.
