We went over to Dunedin tonight and had dinner at Hog Island Fish Camp.  It was a little too warm to eat outside, but I wish they could do something to damper the noise inside.  It’s hard to have a conversation when the dining room is full.  It’s the same thing I said last time we were here.  We started off with the crab cake appetizer.

The crab cake had a nice crunch on the outside and it was filled with crab.  One of the better crab cakes we’ve had around here.  Loren went for the mixed grill for dinner.

He said the fish was blackened nicely and the kebab was cooked well.  The rice dish had a lot of fresh corn in it.  I went for the half portion of the shrimp & grits.

DSC01899

The half portion was a bit too small for me for dinner.  It had shrimp and grouper cheeks over creamy grits.  The tomato gravy was ok.  It had a familiar flavor to it, but I couldn’t place it.  For dessert, we couldn’t pass up the orange cake.

It tasted just like a creamsicle.  The cake was moist and the orange flavor was prevalent throughout the entire thing, in the cake, the filling, and the frosting.  We licked the plate clean.  Total bill with a drink was $55.

Dessert

We got some burgers at Red Robin tonight.  We’ve never been disappointed in the food, but I don’t usually blog about chain restaurants so  I didn’t take any photos.  That is, until we got to dessert.  I’ll just leave this Mile High Mudd Pie here.  Try not to lick the screen.

It was absolutely decadent and divine.  How can you go wrong with chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, Oreo cookies, & caramel??

We timed our dinner just right at Johnny’s Italian in Clearwater.  This place gets busy on the weekends but we were able to get in & get a table without a wait.  Loren started off with a salad and I went for the New England clam chowder, but let’s face it, we come here for the fresh baked Johnny bread.

That bread.  It’s warm and soft and you just don’t care that you’re going to smell like garlic for the rest of the night because that dipping oil is just so delicious.  The clam chowder was creamy, thick and rich and hit the spot.  We decided to try the crab cakes tonight.

    DSC01603

They were quite good.  Very little filler, just lots of crab.  The sauce on the plate had a bit of a zing to it.  Loren tried the chicken Briscante for his entree.

    DSC01604

The chicken was very tender and the pasta cooked perfectly.  It had a light cream sauce that was quite tasty.  I went for my favorite dish on the menu, the chicken marsala with fettucine alfredo.

I had lots of leftovers tonight.  The chicken was tender and the alfredo sauce is so creamy and delicious.  And since I took half of my entree home, we couldn’t pass up a slice of the chocolate dream cake.

This cake is so rich and chocolatety.  The frosting is a fudgey ganache and the cake is quite moist.  So good.  Total bill with a drink was $47.

We enjoyed our dinner so much the last time that we had to return to Craft Street Kitchen with friends again for dinner tonight.  We got there around 5:30pm and sat out on the patio this time and the restaurant was filling up fast.  By the time we left, there was a line out the door.  The food tonight did not disappoint.

Our friends ordered the Smoked Kissed Salmon, the Green Street Salad and the peanut butter pie for dessert.

I don’t think there was any food left on any of the plates.  Everything was so yummy.  The only complaint was that my friend wished the salad had come with some bread.  Loren ordered the Belgium Clucker and I decided to try the duck flat bread they had on special plus a side of mac & cheese.

The Belgium Clucker is their play on chicken and waffles.  The waffle was amazing.  It was light and fluffy, but had this crunchy exterior and a warm vanilla flavor to it.  They should start opening for breakfast and just serve these waffles.  He said the chicken was tender and it paired well with the bacon collard greens and maple BBQ sauce.  It was also covered in a salsa verde sauce.  The plate was all but licked clean.

The duck flatbread isn’t on their normal menu.  It had duck, mandarin oranges, bacon, goat cheese and another smoked cheese.  Did I mention it was huge?  It had some interesting flavors in it.  The mac & cheese tasted ok, but it needed more sauce.  It was just a bit on the dry side.

For our dessert, we tried another thing on special, the State Fair Puffs.  They were fresh, hot donut holes covered in powered sugar and served with a raspberry cream.

    DSC01577

They were amazing and there were a bunch of them in the bag.  I hope they add these to the permanent menu because they were delish.  Our bill alone was $44 and there are still a bunch of things on the menu that we can’t wait to try.

We’ve walked by Grimaldi’s Pizzeria at Countryside Mall a bunch of times and finally decided it was time to check it out.  It was about 8pm on a Sunday night and they weren’t very busy.  We got a small regular pizza and added garlic, meatballs, and mushrooms to it.

    DSC01545

I understand charging for toppings, but $2 for fresh garlic is a bit on the unreasonable side.  I liked the crust of the pizza, but not the sauce.  It had that “not cooked long enough tomato from a can taste” and desperately needed the garlic we added.  The meatballs were ok, and normally, I don’t like a thin crust, but this one had the right texture to it.  You could even watch the guys in the kitchen tossing the dough.  They had a special butterscotch cheesecake that we couldn’t pass up.

    DSC01546

I’d come back just for the cheesecake.  It was silky smooth with a wonderful butterscotch flavor.  Absolutely delicious.   Would I come back for the pizza?  Probably not.  It was overpriced and lacked the flavors I was after.  Total bill with a drink was $32.
