We went over to Craft Street Kitchen in Oldsmar for lunch today after seeing the movie “Arrival” at the AMC theater in the same shopping center. (good movie, by the way).  We eat here a lot.  They always have interesting specials and a different brunch menu on Sunday mornings.  Today, we both opted for burgers.  Loren got the Duck Dynasty special.

This was duck with arugula, a sunny side up egg, apple chips and a cranberry jalepeno spread.  He said it was pretty tasty.  Different combinations of sweet and heat.  I went for the Belly Up Burger.

This one had braised pork belly and an over easy egg.   It was juicy and flavorful, definitely something I’d order again.  It also required quite a few napkins because it was a messy burger.  I also can’t resist their sweet potato tots.  Yum!  Total bill with a drink was about $30.

Brunch

Craft Street Kitchen in Oldsmar opens for brunch on Saturday & Sunday.  We had just gotten out of a movie and was happily surprised that they weren’t too crowded.  While Loren opted for a burger and side salad, I went for the lobster benedict.

He said the burger was tasty and he really liked the bacon on it.  As for the lobster benedict, I think these were the best eggs I’ve ever tasted in my life.

I don’t often give much thought to eggs, but these must have been so fresh because my taste buds were immediately on alert after the first bite. There was plenty of lobster and the English muffin and hollandaise rounded out a pretty tasty breakfast.  Total bill with a drink was $30.

Somehow we managed to find ourselves over the border into Tennessee with a craving for some burgers.  We stopped at Hot Rod 50’s Diner and ordered us up a guacamole burger with a side of grits and a mac & cheese burger with tots.

The burgers were both messy and tasty.  They were cooked a perfect medium, juicy and had a good flavor.  Just what you want from a burger.  The tots were crunchy and yummy, but the grits failed to deliver.  They were fairly tasteless.  I also ordered a chocolate cherry milkshake to go that was quite delish.  Total bill was $24.

We tried going to BurgerMonger last week but couldn’t find a parking space.  This location on Enterprise Road is notorious for not having enough parking for all of the businesses in the little shopping center.  I think this space has turned over at least 4 times that I can remember.

You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you.  It’s set up and looks a lot like Five Guys with the open kitchen.  The food came out fast and was surprisingly very tasty.

You just never know what to expect from these quasi-fast food restaurants.  Their claim to fame is the Akaushi Kobe beef that they use in their burgers.  It was a tasty burger.  They cook them well done unless you ask otherwise, which we both wanted medium and they were cooked a perfect medium.  Loren added bacon, cheese & a garlic sauce that he really liked.  I went with mushrooms, onions & cheese.  We also got the 1/2 lb of fries.  They actually could have been cooked a little longer.  They were a bit limp and not quite crispy enough.

What this place has over some of the others is a strawberry butter cake.

This was awesome.  It had two big scoops of Hagen Daaz vanilla ice cream, sweetened strawberries and a tasty butter cake.  Worth every penny and calorie.  Total bill with a drink was $27.

We’re in High Springs for a few days checking out the different parks in the area.  We walked over to The Great Outdoors Restaurant from the Grady House Bed & Breakfast where we’re staying.  Tuesday is half priced burger day, so we started off with some clam chowder & then moved on to the burgers.

The clam chowder was ok, but lacked seasoning.  We got the Suwannee & Ginnie burgers and neither really impressed us.  They were just very plain, under seasoned burger patties.  I’m glad they were half priced, otherwise I would have really felt like we overpaid.  We tried the caramel crunch cake for dessert.

Loren liked it more than I did.  It had a really odd texture to it.  There were supposed to be crunchy caramel bits in one of the layers, but they were neither crunchy, nor chewy.  They just tasted like stale caramel pieces.  Not the best meal we had on our vacation.  Total bill with a drink was $27.
