Quick Lunch

We went over to Salsa’s for lunch today.  Loren got some chicken fajitas and I went for the shrimp chimichanga.

The chimichanga was cooked well this time.  It had a nice, crispy shell, even after being drenched in cheese sauce.  Loren said the fajitas were pretty good too.  Simple, filling lunch for $19.

  • End of 2012

We went down to Dunedin to take an end of year sunset photo and ended up at Casa Tina for dinner.  We got there fairly early and they were too busy.  Loren munched on the chips & salsa while we waited for our nachos to arrive.

The Monterrey nachos definitely were appealing to look at when they arrived at the table.  All of the chips around the edges were burnt to a crisp.  As far as I’m concerned, it never should have left the kitchen.  We ate around the burnt parts and when our waiter finally stopped by the table to ask if we wanted to take the rest home, I showed him how burnt it was and he took it off the check for us.

For his entree, Loren got the chicken fajitas.

The fajitas were tender, but the veggies, especially the onions, weren’t cooked enough.  For $18, it also seemed like a rather small portion.   I got the chicken flutes.

They were less than great this time.  They just weren’t crispy enough.  The guac was really spicy this time too.  Overall, the prices just seem to be getting higher here, but the food quality isn’t.  Total bill with a drink was $36.

Oh, and here’s that final sunset of 2012.  Good eatings to all for 2013!

  • Cafe Adobe

After a long day hiking through Zion & Bryce Canyon, we stopped at Cafe Adobe in Hatch, UT for dinner.  Loren started off with some chips & salsa.

The salsa was a bit more spicy than he anticipated, but he said it was fresh and tasty.  He ordered some fajitas and I went for a chimichanga.

Both entrees tasted fresh and homemade.  They had wonderful flavors and there was way more on the plate than either of us could eat, and yet, I couldn’t pass up the mini apple pies.

These were addictive.  The crust on them was perfect and with the ice cream and caramel sauce, this was one yummy dessert.  I’d definitely order it again.  I believe the restaurant is only open seasonally, so check before you go.  Total bill with a drink was $35.

  • We eat at Salsa’s in Oldsmar pretty regularly, but lately the level of service we’ve been getting has been going downhill.  Food is coming out of the kitchen a lot slower and the quality has been hit or miss.  Note to self, don’t go on Friday nights.

Loren got some fajitas and I got the Pollo Empanisado.

He said the fajitas were ok and there was enough for a second meal.  My chicken was burnt in several places on the bottom, so overall not the best showing for this dish.  The queso was really spicy tonight too.  I watched the service at the other tables around us and there were some pretty ticked off people.  Drinks not being refilled, missing silverware, orders coming out of the kitchen cold, and a ridiculous wait time for the food.  All things that we’ve experienced in recent visits as well.  Total bill with a drink was $28.

  • Sizzling Hot

Since my fajita craving wasn’t satisfied last week at Poblano’s, we went over to Salsa’s for dinner tonight.  While Loren munched on chips & salsa, I went for some spinach queso.

He said the salsa was really good today.  The queso was a bit on the greasy side, but tasty nonetheless.  Our fajitas came out a little too soon, but they were sizzling hot right to the table which is the way they’re supposed to be.

I gravitate towards the chicken and Loren goes for the beef.  The chicken was very tender with just the right amount of seasoning.  We both ate two fajitas and still had enough left over for another meal.  Total bill with a drink was $29.
