I needed one good country breakfast while we were in North Carolina, so we stopped at the Iron Skillet in Bryson City.  The place was busy for a Wednesday morning, but we managed to grab a table and ordered up some grub.

Loren got the western omelette and I had to have some biscuits & gravy with scrambled eggs and bacon.  I actually ordered the bacon for Loren because I’m not a big bacon fan, but this stuff was good.  It had a sweet, brown sugar goodness to it that I ended up eating more of it than I thought I would.  The biscuits were fresh, light, and fluffy and the gravy had the right amount of sausage and pepper in it.  This was a proper down home breakfast all for $16.

  • A friend and I were heading to a movie and stopped at First Watch for breakfast.  Luckily, we got there before the big Sunday crowd showed up.  We both ordered skillets.

I got mine with avocado and over easy eggs. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and the fruit on the side was fresh.  It was fresh and perfectly cooked.  That’s one of the things I really like about this restaurant.  Everything from the decor to the food is light and fresh.  It just has an overall different feel from so many of the other chain breakfast restaurants.  Something as simple as leaving a pitcher of water and coffee on the table makes it so much more convenient for both the waitress and us.  Total bill was $9.

    Big Breakfast

We were over in Tampa and stopped at the Three Coins Diner for breakfast.  They were pretty busy this morning , but luckily we got a table without a wait.  It’s not a big restaurant and looked to be filled with locals enjoying a hearty breakfast.

Loren went for a Belgium waffle and bacon.  Wouldn’t be breakfast without bacon, right?

Big fresh waffle and tasty bacon, what more could a guy ask for?  I went for the pancakes, eggs and some hashbrowns.

The pancakes were light and fluffy, just the way pancakes should be.  There was more food on our plates than either of us could eat.  It was typical diner food, with typical diner prices.  You don’t go home hungry.  Three Coins is open 24 hours, so you can get your fill any time of day or night.  Total bill with a drink was $19.

We had a late breakfast at Athen’s in downtown Safety Harbor this morning.

Blueberry pancakes with eggs and bacon for Loren and a delicious raisin French Toast with eggs and hashbrowns for me.  Very filling and the price was right.  Total bill with a drink was $14.

    Breakfast

We were down in St Pete today and stopped for breakfast at Doe Does Diner.  The place was packed, but luckily we got there at the tail end of breakfast so a lot of people were leaving.   I’m guessing the only menus they have are the paper placemats on the tables because we weren’t offered any menus, which seemed strange since there weren’t any lunch selections on the placemat.  Maybe you have to ask for a lunch menu?

Anyway, we both settled on breakfast.  Loren ordered an omelette and I got the country benedict.

It was typical diner food.  Both dishes could have used more seasoning.  The biscuits in my dish were very good.  They’re buried under all of the sausage gravy in the photo.  Overall, a fairly hearty breakfast for $14.
