When we were in Ozona last week, we noticed the Quirky Fork Cafe and went over there tonight with some friends.   Come to find out, they’ve been there almost a year.  They weren’t very busy for a Saturday evening.  The waitress told us the chef is the owner and she makes everything fresh, so once it runs out, that’s all there is.  Nothing frozen.  They had some specials on the board and three of us ordered from there.

We started with some pita and tzatziki sauce.

The pita was warm and tasty.  The tzatziki was ok, very sour creamy.  It needed a little more of something; cucumber, garlic, lemon, just something to cut the sour cream flavor a bit more.  Two of us ordered the flounder special.

It came with asparagus, but I asked it they had any other vegetable & they made some grilled zucchini for me instead.  The flounder was very fresh with a crab and breadcrumb coating on it and it had a side of lemon potatoes.  The flavors were good, but it needed a different texture element.  Everything on the plate was very soft.  Loren got another one of the specials.  The Lombardy chicken & pasta.

It had a gorgonzola cheese sauce and sun dried tomatoes.  The chicken was tender and it had a very gorgonzola flavor to it.  Not his favorite cheese, but the dish was very creamy and the flavors worked well together.  Our other friend went for a cheese burger.

She said it was very good and the fries were tasty too.  They also got a piece of chocolate cake to go.  Overall, it was a good experience and we’ll go back again.  The server was friendly, but drinks were empty and not filled quickly enough and when the restaurant isn’t busy, there’s just no excuse for that.

  • Lots of BBQ

Let me start off by saying the goal of this evening was to have leftovers.  We went over to Ozona Pig and got some Brunswick stew and the big Boss Hog special.

The Brunswick stew has a little bit of a kick to it, but it’s oh so good.  The boss hog platter has pulled pork, brisket, ribs, & chicken.  We hardly made a dent in it.  The ribs were fall off the bone tender and the rest of it was smoky and yummy.  Total bill with a drink was $42.

  • We had lunch at Molly Goodheads today.  It was early, so they weren’t very busy.  We started off with a bowl of the He Crab soup.  Loren got the turkey avocado bacon sandwich and I tried the seafood salad sandwich.

The soup was good.  Loren really liked his sandwich.  He said it had a good combination of flavors with a bit of kick from the chipolte mayo.  My sandwich; however, was not at all what I was expecting.  It was more of a seafood spread than anything else and it’s also on the menu as an appetizer like that.  It was supposed to be shrimp, crab & lobster, but it was indistinguishable as any of those things.  I didn’t like the texture, flavor or anything about it.  At a minimum, it needed some crunchy lettuce.  It probably would be ok warmed up with some chips to dip in it, but just didn’t work as a sandwich.  Total bill with a drink was $29.

When we’re looking for a meal that will yield leftovers, there’s nothing better than the Boss Hog Special at Ozona Pig.

It’s enough food for way more than 2 people.  Ribs, pulled pork, chicken & brisket, plus two sides and deviled eggs.  They do a really tasty job with their BBQ.  The ribs were smoky and tender.  None of those made it home.  The pulled pork was also very tender and we just kept nibbling until we forced ourselves to put the rest away.  If you want to taste a little bit of everything, this is the way to go.  Total bill with a drink was $31.

  • BBQ for Two

BBQ was on the menu for dinner tonight, so we headed over to the Ozona Pig.  It was fairly early, so they weren’t too busy yet.  Since we wanted some leftovers for tomorrow, we went ahead & ordered the Boss Hog special.

It had ribs, chicken, pulled pork and brisket plus two sides.  All of the meats were tender with a nice smokey flavor.  We had plenty to eat and enough for another meal for both of us.  Total bill with a drink was $32.
