We had lunch at Molly Goodheads today.  It was early, so they weren’t very busy.  We started off with a bowl of the He Crab soup.  Loren got the turkey avocado bacon sandwich and I tried the seafood salad sandwich.

The soup was good.  Loren really liked his sandwich.  He said it had a good combination of flavors with a bit of kick from the chipolte mayo.  My sandwich; however, was not at all what I was expecting.  It was more of a seafood spread than anything else and it’s also on the menu as an appetizer like that.  It was supposed to be shrimp, crab & lobster, but it was indistinguishable as any of those things.  I didn’t like the texture, flavor or anything about it.  At a minimum, it needed some crunchy lettuce.  It probably would be ok warmed up with some chips to dip in it, but just didn’t work as a sandwich.  Total bill with a drink was $29.

When we’re looking for a meal that will yield leftovers, there’s nothing better than the Boss Hog Special at Ozona Pig.

It’s enough food for way more than 2 people.  Ribs, pulled pork, chicken & brisket, plus two sides and deviled eggs.  They do a really tasty job with their BBQ.  The ribs were smoky and tender.  None of those made it home.  The pulled pork was also very tender and we just kept nibbling until we forced ourselves to put the rest away.  If you want to taste a little bit of everything, this is the way to go.  Total bill with a drink was $31.

BBQ was on the menu for dinner tonight, so we headed over to the Ozona Pig.  It was fairly early, so they weren’t too busy yet.  Since we wanted some leftovers for tomorrow, we went ahead & ordered the Boss Hog special.

It had ribs, chicken, pulled pork and brisket plus two sides.  All of the meats were tender with a nice smokey flavor.  We had plenty to eat and enough for another meal for both of us.  Total bill with a drink was $32.

  • It was around 2pm when we got out of the movies and Loren suggested we give Ozona Pig another try.  Unfortunately, we walked in and were told they closed at 2pm, so we walked across the street to Molly Goodheads instead.

We split a bowl of clam chowder.

This was so thick and rich and yummy.  Definitely one of the better versions in the area.  For his lunch, Loren went for a blackened mahi sandwich.

He said the mahi was cooked perfectly and the fries were nice & crunchy.  I decided on an avocado burger and onion rings.

The burger was very thick & juicy, though not quite cooked to the medium I asked for.  The onion rings were a bit on the salty side and needed to be a bit crunchier.  The only thing I really dislike about Molly’s is that they allow smoking on the patio and even though we were inside, as people walked in & out the door, you could still smell the smoke.  Total bill with a drink was $26.

We met a friend for lunch at Molly Goodheads today.  Started out with the alligator tail appetizer, half fried & half blackened.

It didn’t do much for me.  Yeah, I thought it tasted like chicken and the pieces were really small and crunchy.  Loren said the blackend seasoning was pretty strong today.  He thinks the last time he ordered it, he must have asked for lightly blackened.  For lunch, he decided on gumbo.

Nice big bowl of tomatoey goodness.  Definitely a different take than what we get at the Cajun Cafe, but still pretty good.  Our friend got a crab cake sandwich & I got the crab cake plate with garlic mashed & cole slaw.

They had two different crab cake dishes on the menu, this one and a Maryland crab cake.  I hope the other one is better because this one wasn’t very good.  Mostly filler and cooked a bit too long.  The coating was too crispy.   Usually, I love the mashed potatoes here,  but today’s were a bit too thick & had way more garlic than I like.  Overall, not the best meal I’ve had here.  Total bill with 2 drinks was $35.
